Help Plz! =S
Apr. 22nd, 2007 06:08 pmI burnt the fingers and thumb of my right hand at work on Friday night. Not good! *whimpers* My hand is all bandaged up! It's not too sore just now (if you don't count the occasional stabbing pain through my fingers and almost constant itchiness) - but was sooo painful on Friday night!
It seriously felt like my hand was on fire! (I kept thinking it must be a little like what Daniel was going through when he 'died' from radiation.) Not something I want to try again any time soon. Or ever again, for that matter! Gonna be great inspiration for a Daniel/radiation type fic later though! (One of few 'good' points I keep trying to convince myself of.)
Yeah, well, anyway...I have to go down to the doctors' to get it redressed every morning for the next7 5 or so days now. That means getting up before 10am! *whimpers* And the doctor has referred me to a burns specialist! Gotta admit that the whole idea of needing a specialist is scary. =S
Anyway, how did I do it? I was trying to get some chicken nuggets out of a basket over the fryer and the basket slipped and fell back into the oil, along with my hand. I had a plastic glove on at the time - which probably protected my hand very very slightly from the oil - so I ripped that off seconds after it happened and raced to the tap. I ran water over my hand for 15 or so minutes then mum picked me up and took me to the doctors. Won't bore you with the details on that bit.
I didn't cry when it happened really - maybe one or two stray tears being the exception - and have only allowed myself 10 mins of crying time once I've gotten home from the redressing sessions. The crying is more psychological than anything (apart from the first night - that was definitely due to the pain then!). I haven't been able to write properly without being in pain; it's hard to type and it takes extra time to do everyday stuff. It's just plain frustrating!
Also, the doc said I may not regain all movement in 2 of my fingers (my little finger and the one next to it) so that thought is more than a little depressing. As long as I can still write when it heals, I'm happy. Or close enough. I'm never gonna take things for granted again though! The whole experience has been downright unpleasant and I strongly suggest that if you ever work in a kitchen to keep your hands and other body parts away from the oil! It's bad. Very bad.
Anyway, I was hoping for some fic recs to help distract me. *looks around hopefully* Preferably Sam/Jack or John/Elizabeth. Hurt and comfort is a bonus. It's all good though. Thanks!
