“You know, pie is a very funny thing,” Booth says. He nods slowly as if it’s the most important and most serious topic they’ve ever discussed.
Brennan raises an eyebrow at him.
Stella smiles.
Mac looks on, amusement in his eyes.
“It is,” Stella supplies helpfully.
“How?” Brennan asks.
“Well,” Booth continues, leaning over the table, “there’s the old pie-in-the-face technique.”
”True.”
“And it can fly, I’ve heard.”
“Not true.” Sceptical.
“Pie in the sky,” Mac elaborates.
“Oh. Funny.” Brennan.
“I thought so.”
“So are you convinced,” Booth asks, “that pie is funny?”
Brennan shakes her head. “I’m only convinced that people can make pie funny, not that the actual pie is funny.”
Booth frowns.
Mac smirks in appreciation. “When you put it that way, I have to agree.”
Stella catches Booth’s eyes. “Perhaps you could give us all a demonstration of the pie-in-the-face technique. It might sway their minds on the matter.”
Booth glances at the cream pie sitting on the counter to his left. His gaze drifts back to meet Stella’s.
“Any volunteers?”
