It's the opposite for me, actually. I was only part of one until a few weeks ago, and that was was on hiatus more often than not, so I left. And then I joined

scifiland, and I love them all. I mean, you're not forced to participate all the time. But I picspam a lot anyway, and make icons, so I might as well make them for the land comms.

That I totally understand. But maybe jumping land comms might be a good idea? Joining new ones every cycle? Of course they're basically all the same, in general, but some have pretty cool ideas, I must say. Although I'll probably feel the same way in a year or so. ;)

It's only through joining land comms that I've got new LJ friends, learnt a ton more about graphics, written and shared more fic (I just procrastinate so deadlines can be useful!), and generally felt a sense of community online. Whedonland has been there at some difficult times in my life and let me have something/someone (doing activities for my team) other than myself to focus on. So I'm really grateful for that and always will be :)
I'm not so into bigbangtheoryland but some of that is that it's lacking team spirit whereas Whedonland (firefly at least) has a sense of community. I'm in JJVerse and Legendland as well and I think being part of these help keep finished shows alive. (not legend of the seeker; we're not going down without a fight, season 3 will be ours!)
I'm so tempted by either castleland or caperland; it's mostly my being behind on eps due to the shows not yet being available in the UK that is holding me back - if/when I quit bbtl. 4 is enough at one time! The participate-or-die thing is difficult though.
I think having the themed weeks at Whedonland helped change things about a bit, but writing, graphics, games, and fanvids/fanmixes pretty much encompasses all the creative online pursuits. I'm not sure what else can be done to make things "fresh".
If I get another job I'd be concerned with time to do everything and would consider going on hiatus/dropping out of a couple of comms, but I still feel the benefits too strongly right now to drop them all. You'll be missed at Whedonland but you can always come back :)

Yeah, I barely get time to check mine as it is and I rarely leave comments. Feel bad about that. Plus I've found my productivity with my own writing has fallen a fair bit with the land comms getting in the way. I need to drop anything right now that requires responsibility so I can just focus on myself awhile and relax. Long time since I've felt I can just relax.

I'm not a fan of the themed weeks. Since I've never seen Angel or Buffy, the themed weeks killed my interest in the com. I still enjoy Whedonland, but I'm just not sure I have the time to do it right these days. My personal fic and my blogging have really died down, and since my blogging, in particular, is something others rely upon, I might have to cut back/drop out to take care of other responsibilities.

I've found the same sorts of things but in saying that, I miss how I used to look at LJ and blogging and memes and the like before land comms. Things had a different feel to them then. It felt more... freeing and fun. With land comms, I feel obligated now, pressured, and while it was fine to start, after all this time it's wearing me down a bit. It feels more like a competition than just doing things for the fun of it, like I used to. And the various other land comms I've tried out have pretty much the same activities (which I definitely get there's not much else to vary with, but it still feels repetitive).

The sense of community is what I'll miss most when I do leave. It's so great, like a whole revival of shows (especially with Buffy and Angel!) and I hope the land comms stay around a long while in the future. I just won't be a part of it after this current round ends to the point in time I change my mind if I do change it.

I've been enjoying the themed weeks a fair bit, however that's not enough to keep me interested or invested in it. Right at this point in time I need to get rid of anything I feel might be holding me back and figure out what I want to do with myself. I've been wanting awhile now to focus more on my original writing and submitting that around, so without land comms (and without another few writing comms I recently dropped, ironically), I should have more time for that.

You'll be missed at Whedonland but you can always come back :)

Thank you. :) I'll miss it too (despite how the rest of what I've said probably sounds like lol). It'll be hard leaving it after all this time. Shall always be cheering for the Browncoats though, that's for sure.
