12_stories. My first House fic! XD
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh………………………
The pounding of rain belted down onto the roof and windows of the hospital, showing no signs of letting up. Trees thrashed wildly in the wind, and in the approaching darkness fragments of light from the lampposts lining the street and from inside the hospital bent into strange shapes that danced across the slick road.
The usual chattering of patients in the foyer and waiting areas was a mere whisper compared to the raging storm, as were the exchanges between doctors and nurses bustling around the halls. A surprisingly small number of patients had been admitted, which was great, and there was a certain calmness in the air.
The general atmosphere of the storm controlling her mood, Cuddy stared out the window, her mind gently wandering and an expression to match on her face. She felt content. Calm. At peace. She liked to think that it was the weather that was making her feel that way, but in reality, it wasn’t.
It was him. House. In his obnoxious and arrogant manner, he had somehow gotten to her and it felt so right. She had never expected that thought to cross her mind, but it had and it was real.
Her mouth twitched into a smile and she continued to stare out the window as her thoughts moved on to other frivolous matters: the lack of paperwork she had to complete, the new shoes she had just bought the day before, the light conversation she had overheard earlier between a few of the doctors regarding a new medical series on TV…
She had been like that for some time when someone approached her, and she turned slowly to see who it was, feeling strangely refreshed and rejuvenated. Her smile grew when she saw House.
Without a word, he moved up beside her and offering a small smile, joined her in watching the storm. She took his hand and squeezed it gently in acknowledgement, grateful that he was there. He returned the gesture silently and in perfect sync, as if they could read each other’s thoughts, they let their focus turn back to the rain.
At times like these, words weren’t needed, after all.
