“Sir?”

Jack glanced up at the sound of his 2ICs voice and at once found he had lost the ability to speak. An impromptu meeting had been called to assess the possible use of naquadria in X302s and, as the company was of the “kiss arse” variety and there was a dinner afterwards, they’d been ordered to dress up. No dress blues. Hammond’s orders.

Sam was to meet up with him and they were to head in together by way of Asgard beaming technology.

He had been expecting to run into her eventually, that in mind. It was only a matter of time. What he had not theorised however, was that the ‘formal dress’ she had been requested to wear would be so damn hot.

Her dress was simple with straps crisscrossing her back. A thin blouse over the top completed the outfit. Perhaps what made it so stunning was its emerald green colour. It highlighted Sam’s eyes beautifully.

He grunted softly when he realised he’d been staring and sheepishly tore his eyes from her. His hands reached for something – anything – to fiddle with. They landed an oddly shaped piece of metal. Anything to stop his mind from wandering…

“Sir,” she said again, a hint of amusement in her voice. If he had the guts to look up again, he was certain her eyes would mirror it. “Are you ready to go?”

He cleared his throat and forced himself to return the object he’d picked up to where he’d found it. Moving on to fiddle with his tie, he shrugged as casually as he could. “Give me a minute,” he managed to get out. It didn’t sound half bad, either, he told himself, his confidence growing. He didn’t sound nervous or affected by Sam at all. Not one bit.

He offered her a grin as he straightened out his uniform and then collected the files he was to bring. He made certain that there was a spare notebook in case they had to sit through any lengthy discussions worthy of his ignorance. Stick people were always fun.

Sweeping his gaze over his office quickly, he nodded. He was ready. He gestured at the door and followed Sam as she made her way. If his eyes wandered over her body it was only by accident. He smiled at her when they arrived in Hammond’s office in preparation for the Asgard to beam them out.

“Let’s do this.”
