I have some nostalgia for Tennant when I see him around the place, but his time was a bit too hit-and-miss writing wise for me to have been too sad at the end of it. He was great, but I felt they made the Doctor too arrogant and thoughtless, and some of the episodes (including most of the Martha series) were really weak - AND I got sick to death of Rose constantly reappearing or being referenced.
Matt is definitely my favourite so far, and I think they'll have to work very hard to top him! But that's the beauty of Doctor Who - with the changing character it will suit different people at different times.
Wow, really? I'd have said the same about Matt Smith, tbh. I mean, he's been great, but this latest season felt like filler, and Clara felt like a plot device more than a character. I just... wasn't feeling it at all. *shrug*
As for being too arrogant and thoughtless, I thought that was the point sometimes? To show him losing grip on humanity a little, and needing a companion to keep him rooted and "sane".
Rose.. Meh. I don't know why she was so popular. She was solidly okay. But I got more emotional over other characters, never really connected with her.
Yeah, will be interesting to see who is up next. :)
Yeah, the Clara series wasn't the strongest, although I did enjoy the finale, and I loved that Strax et al were in it more, I think they could have made a lot more of the whole thing.
I think the problem with 10 was that I felt he was like that even BEFORE he was supposed to be showing cracks - like with the Absorbaloff episode. I also felt that RTD got a bit self-indulgent in pushing Rose (solidly okay, excellent description!), who I did really like to begin with, and I was super dissatisfied with her endings - both of them! And I hated how mean he was to Mickey the whole time, when Mickey had proved himself again and again. That and I sort of felt the Martha series was a disappointment - she spent the whole time just being 'Not Rose' - and the finale being nothing more than Deus Ex Machina, and I thought the whole thing with the Timelords returning was way too rushed. Also the whole big hoo-hah about the Doctor dying and it being predicted and it being foreboded about for ages, when actually he just did the same thing he'd done 9 times before. Felt more about RTD's big ending than the Doctor's.
But then, I know there are lots of people who absolutely hate Moffat, who I've always really loved as a writer, so I know it's all a matter of opinion - and I did absolutely adore the series with Donna, I thought she was amazing.
