7rainbowprompts. Also, I’m going to dedicate this one to
phrenitis. Hope you like!
She didn’t want Matt to tell her to take up the offer to go to Quantico. She didn’t want him to encourage her to accept what would mean an entire year apart. She knew she’d make it through okay, as would Matt, but their relationship might not and that thought scared her.
She wasn’t prepared to risk it.
By the way Matt had reacted initially, it seemed that maybe he was. Or maybe she was just reading him wrong. It was entirely possible that he was as scared as she was that if she went they would lose what they had between them.
If that was correct, and a big part of her hoped it was, it made sense that he wouldn’t ask her to stay. Telling her to go, while supportive of her career, was a sure way to end them. On the other hand, telling her not to would be like making a commitment.
Matt was smart. He had probably figured that one out. Maybe it was why he hadn’t said anything to her yet. Maybe he was having second thoughts on where they stood. Maybe he was scared by the idea of committing himself to her.
Or then again, maybe he was too proud. Telling someone else that they needed him or her was surely not an easy task. It required devotion and a pure heart. It required love.
Maybe…there were too many maybes. She was over thinking it.
Sighing, she forced her mind to clear. There was nothing she could do but wait and talk to Matt. He was the only one who could settle her unease and answer all the questions that plagued her thoughts.
Talking through their commitments would have to wait for later, though. She had a job to do.

Date: 2007-08-09 05:38 am (UTC)First off, STANDOFF FIC IS JOY.
Secondly, I love this look at the post Quantico-conversation because they always seem to get into those situations where they'll want the same thing but react all wrong and end up in chaos.
Thirdly, Emily is most definitely an over-thinker and it's so one of those types of situations where Matt's reaction was not what she expected, so it's awesome to see her rethinking it all, "omg what went wrong?" LOL.
Thank you for Standoff fic!! *happy*

Yes, they do, don't they!? That's probably the thing I love most about the show. Talking their way out of chaotic situations and the like (for both work and personal issues). Something like that.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw the last episode that inspired this fic(let)! =P

Have you considered writing an angsty story about their break up? But putting them together in the end :-)
