"I have a proposal."
"Yes?"
"Dinner. You and me. How about it?"
If she's entirely truthful, the idea of dinner, alone with Nate, is something she has been dreaming of for a long time. Dinner implies a step further, a step forwards in their relationship.
Despite that, she can only offer a slight frown and a shrug. He must have an ulterior motive if he's asking her out. He knows how much she cares for him. Anything he wants, she will almost certainly do for him.
"Well?"
"What's this about, Nate?"
"Dinner." He looks taken aback. "A meal between two people. Sophie-"
"A date?"
"I...uh."
"Nate. Is this a date? Are you asking me out on a date?"
"Can two friends and co-workers not spend time together outside of... argh!" He turns his back on her, threading his fingers through his hair. "Fine. Yes. Yes, Sophie. I was hoping this could be a date. Is that okay with you?"
Her lips curve into a smile and she ducks her head, blushing. "I... Nate."
"Would you like to go out to dinner with me? As my date?"
She meets his eyes. "I'd love to."
