“Don’t you think it’s time?” Zoe asked her husband, running the fingers of one hand up and down his bare chest. She ran her tongue over her bottom lip, cautious, waiting.
Wash shrugged and leaned in to kiss her. When he pulled back, he looped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her close to him. “I don’t know,” he replied carefully. “Do you think it is? Because if you do, then I think so. Yes.”
Narrowing her eyes at him, Zoe leaned back slightly. “Wash, honey. Tell me what you think, not what you think I want to hear.”
“Well,” he began after a moment, “I think that…” He fell silent and stared off into space for an indeterminate amount of time.
“Okay, let me try that again. I think that this is very out of the blue and timed…not so well with all the death and the bad guys lately. In fact, with all the crazy going on here, I’d have thought you’d want to wait a bit before…”
It was his turn to look curiously at Zoe. “Wait. What’s going on?”
The twitch at the corner of his wife’s mouth made him more than a mite unsettled.
“Zoe?”
He stared at her, wide-eyed.
“Honey,” Zoe said, taking his hand in hers and squeezing gently. “Our time has come now. We’re pregnant.”
Taking a few moments to digest, Wash held Zoe closer. “We’re going to be parents?” he finally exclaimed, grinning.
Zoe nodded and returned his smile.
“Shiny!”
