The being shrank down as the men moved even closer. Dashes of moonlight glinted off their daggers, sending sparks of light into its eyes and reflecting off a pale red haze.
The men paused for a moment as the hazy glow spread to the beings’ skin. A couple of them stepped back a few paces, involuntarily. Some bolted for their cars. Most of them pushed on.
The being suddenly closed its eyes and relaxed as the men advanced. Moments later, a flash of blood-red pierced the sky. The being disappeared into the trees, leaving a trail of bodies behind it.
