After conversation with the squints and an open-handed pat to Zach’s shoulder, Booth excuses himself, rushing towards the bathroom.
He bends over the sink and splashes water onto his face.
I almost kissed her.
It’s the only thought in his head, and it simply won’t disappear. He has to think before he speaks to keep that sentence from jumping out of his mouth.
I almost kissed her.
What had he been thinking? He’d sworn to himself he wouldn’t do this. He’d sworn that he would wait until she was ready; open to the idea of a… them.
Not now. Right now, she still isn’t ready. And he knows that. But in that moment, when her eyes had been betraying how lost and vulnerable she was, he’d wanted to erase that look from them, return them to the pale, crystal blue he knows. He’d wanted to show her that she isn’t alone; she has people looking out for her.
As much as he’d hated the kid for interrupting them; he has to admit that Zack definitely saved him from making a huge mistake.
He’ll wait.
And when she’s ready, he’ll show her that she does have a family.
And I've only season 1 minus 2 episodes which they left unaired before rudely cutting the series off! but don't worry about spoilers. I read spoilery fics all the time. Bad habit, but it's all good. If that makes any sense.
