Title: Tears Of Joy
Fandom: Tru Calling
Characters: Tru/Jack
Prompt: Tears of joy
Word Count: 166
Rating: G
Summary: Crystal-like droplets form in her eyes and unshed, they shimmer.
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] cherrygurl1225 on fanfiction.net. 7/07/08.

Crystal-like droplets form in her eyes and unshed, they shimmer. The light from the streetlight highlights them. Far off in the distance a dog barks. She takes in a lungful of air and shakily releases it.

She blinks. A million moments pass her by and the first tear squeezes out of her eye to roll down her cheek. He brushes it away with the pad of his thumb, his index finger trailing over her other cheek.

“It’s okay now, Tru,” he says. “You saved me.”

Words refuse to form on her lips. Another tear escapes it’s prison. Gripping his shirt she pulls him closer. It is such moments that she usually runs from. This moment is a special one. It speaks of the idea ‘commitment’ though it has no mouth to say such things with.

He draws her in and a leather sleeve wraps around her back. Her lips curl into a relieved grin as she cries the last of her tears. “You’re alive,” she agrees.

I still remember that you wrote this for me and I still love it now just as much as the first time I read it. What I love about this piece is the delicate balance of tragedy (potential tragedy) and commitment you created. These are two people who are metaphorically and sometimes physically barred from each other because of their callings and beliefs. Yet, when both are drawn together like this, I think both are afraid of commitment. Tru would run from moments like this because, I think at some point, she has shut herself off emotionally (especially with how that whole Jensen arc would have played out) and I think Jack (and in your fic's case saving Jack) would be the one to "bring her out of it" though he is commitment-phobe himself! It is their very layers of complexity that make me love this pairing so damn much!

I miss your Tru/Jack fics! Please write more! With cherries and pineapples on top? :)

Naww, thanks. :)
Yeah, their differences definitely put up a wall between them.. but sometimes can do the opposite too and bring them together (like the Christmas ep for example).

I was so curious about the Jensen arc, where it was heading. He seemed to be starting to sense stuff.. maybe he'd have discovered Tru's secret.

They are most definitely complex.

Shall see about more fic for them soon.. None new to post as far as I can find sadly, so.

Yeah, I agree! I call the Christmas ep my birthday ep (or my Birthday Eve ep since the ep takes place on Christmas Eve, lol) and my birthday is on Christmas, so... :)

The Jensen arc would have been so interesting! Did you ever read Doris Egan's blog? She wrote some of the arcs of what was to happen. I must say, SO INTERESTING! Jane Espenson was apparently gonna write some spooky Tru/Jensen scenes, too.

Future fic idea for you if you want to delve into the Jensen arc a bit and go beyond a drabble is for Jensen to maybe catch Tru and Jack together. He's creepily observing them from a distance or something.

Would love for you to write something new when you feel better. I always love reading your stories. :)

ENJOY!!

Jane Espenson is AMAZING! She's tweeted me 3 times and I recently met her in person (at a TV writing event in Los Angeles). She's just incredible. Very supportive of newbie/baby writers. She also really loves Community and she seemed impressed when I told her I wrote a spec for it. She also used to be a student at my uni and, not only that, but I found out she used to live in the same apartment complex as the one I lived in this past summer! Small world! It was INCREDIBLE to meet her cuz I've admired her work for seven years and just to be able to shake her hand and ahhh. I did tell her I was a TC fan and she's like, "Don't tell people that!" Not sure why. Maybe she isn't proud of the show. But I know that she was a co-executive producer on the show and she wrote Tru's b-day ep In the Dark. Kinda bothered me that she said that, but overall, it was amazing. She's amazing. She's written for a lot of people's favorite shows and I think that's great. And now I will stop rambling about the amazingness that is Jane Espenson!
