From beneath it devours
Mar. 7th, 2011 01:59 pmNOTE: This post contains info that may cause some distress and some of those quirky fears we all have but don't usually talk about.
Do any of you fear that one day you'll be taking a shower and something will climb out of the plug hole and attack you, sink it's teeth into you, or wrap around your legs and trip you so slip and bang your head on the shower wall and the blood fills the bathtub while you lose consciousness?
Whenever that occurs to me, I wonder if I've seen too much X Files..

Date: 2011-03-21 11:28 am (UTC)And so will very likely not what I'm about to say (write, ugh).
It's happened to me once. Not the horror movie scenario, it was real life. But here's the story. In France (I've been told it doesn't happen in Brissy but I don't see why it wouldn't), some of the creepy crawlies come up into our warm houses through the drains. So it happens that you find dead bug in your tub.
What I didn't expect was that a persistent one would be coming up while I was in the shower. I mean, hello? Water running!
It was Huntsman wide, but thinner (this is not a tropical area. at all). At some point I frowned and realized it wasn't shampoo foam tickling my big toe.
As much as I don't have a phobia of them, I'd rather they don't touch me, and I am very very easily startled (hello, ptsd). So I probably yelped, I jerked, I slipped and fell with my back across the tub's side.
My mom found me on the floor, howling in pain, shouting for her to get the damn shampoo out of my eyes. I sported a large blueish strip across my back for weeks.
Now, in doubt, we all pour some scalding hot water down the drain before showering. In case.
And I take showers in the shower, cause, knowing me, I'll find another reason to slip. And I'd rather not repeat the experience.
