Daddy will come and take us home, River says. She knows he will. He’s not a mean old man like he tells everyone. His heart is soft. He tries to hide from that fact, but it’s never any less true. He is a big softy and he will come and bring his ship and his crew and he will rescue them.
Simon doesn’t believe it. He shakes his head and makes mutterings. He says, daddy won’t come. His hope is lost. Ripped from him. He can’t see the reason why daddy will come for them and can’t see through her metaphor. Too literal in his interpretation. Doesn’t comprehend.
He will. Soon he will believe her. The truth will be revealed. Daddy will come.
