Date: 2011-09-06 10:33 am (UTC)I recently re-did my LJ layout and matched my DW to it, but I've been putting off tackling the profile page.
Words about you?
Firefly addict, regular poster, always replies to comments, fic writer, is very shiny :D
IDEK. Feel disregard that entirely.

Date: 2011-09-06 12:20 pm (UTC)Ooh nice. Your layout is pretty damn shiny.
Heee. Nice. *adds* :D

Date: 2011-09-07 05:27 am (UTC)Truth is, I haven't been taking requests over at ff.net because there were maybe two people (not you) who kept asking for fic from fandoms I told them numerous times I don't actually know. I've not taken requests over here lately either as I have a huge list to write up already, however, I can add Jeff/Britta to that list and see how things go. Not promising I can get to it fast (getting close to assignment due dates) but shall do my best.
Also, you should sooo get an LJ. *nod nod* I'm on here pretty much every day except for when uni gets crazy busy.. and there are never enough people to obsess over shows with (esp. not TC and Community. :)).
Thanks. I quite like this layout. Simple is always best.

Date: 2011-09-07 05:40 am (UTC)Good luck with uni! You have such interesting classes! I'm in my last semester of uni (unless you count the one dangling Spanish class I have to take next semester), so I understand being busy. Your internship looks fun. My internship is almost over. Such sadness.
Hope you don't mind the long post. I do check LJ quite often and I do comment, but since I don't have a full-blown LJ I mostly tweet and make FB updates. But I would love to talk the more interesting parts of school, TC and Community with you. Always down for that, if you don't mind. :)

Date: 2011-09-07 06:46 am (UTC)Yeah, we do seem to have a fair few fandoms in common. Is nice, especially with the smaller fandoms.
Jack/Britta. Wow. Would never have occurred to me! Could maybe work though, yup. :)
Thanks. Yeah, my classes this semester are definitely interesting. Not sure if in a good way or not though. :P Sadly no writing classes this semester. :/ Internship is all right. Not too exciting.
I don't mind. I do tend to leave replying to longer comments a bit longer than short comments, but that's mostly so I don't have to rush my responses.
:)

Date: 2011-09-07 07:07 am (UTC)I'm used to being in the shipping minority, esp. with Tru/Jack and Jeff/Britta. I'll fight for those ships. I'll fight for TC with my life, lol. Seriously I LOVE Tru Calling probably about as much as you love Firefly (which I still haven't seen... don't kill me!). But I'm sure I will at some point. ;)
Jack/Britta. OK, so... both are kinda loners. Both would have met pre each series. Both have very sarcastic sensibilities. I see them as one night stand/fling kind of thing, but I think they help each other and it opens them up to other relationships down the line (Jack with Tru, Britta with Jeff). That's kinda the Cliff Notes version without clogging up your LJ responses. Most fans of both fandoms haven't thought of it. But I ship it, so... ;)
I hope you have writing classes next semester then! Or are you done with your Bachelor's after this semester? I'm in Advanced Screenwriting, which I think will turn out to be great, but I've hardly taken any writing classes cuz my major is sadly not structured that way. That's why I want to go for my Master's. So I can focus on WRITING! Not this analytical crap.
Thanks for replying! I will definitely be commenting on some LJ posts from you that I find interesting. Just so you know someone is reading them. :)

Date: 2011-09-07 08:08 am (UTC)Yeah, gets weird switching from a bigger fandom to a small one or vice versa. They have different feels to them. Small fandoms are more intimate. Less people and all.
Hmm.. I suppose I can see that. One night thing, definitely can see..
I'll be finished my current degree after this semester.. but have applied for another course, so hopefully I'll get in.
Screenwriting is amazing. ♥ Must agree though.. a lot of the courses are way too focused on analysing rather than actually helping us write better. Is stuuupid. :/ Still. Better than most courses, I imagine.
Np. I look forward to your future comments. :)
Actually.. speaking of small fandoms, do you watch Dresden Files at all?
no subject
Date: 2011-09-08 05:34 am (UTC)I don't mind smaller fandoms. I like the intimate feel to them. I just wish more people would like them! But then that would make the fandom bigger and it's nice having both bigger and smaller fandoms.
Jack just strikes me as a guy who's lonely and has had a lot of one night stands with women and Britta strikes me as a girl who's had a lot of one night stands with men. That's how I kinda make it work. Though in some fics, their relationship is a bit longer, but it's never too long cuz if I understand their characters correctly they'd be all 'Ahhh, relationship! I don't know how to handle that!' So...
Congrats on almost finishing your degree! What's the other course you want to take? Is it another Bachelor's, a Masters or a certificate program?
Yeah, Screenwriting is AMAZING. And I love my prof. She's so encouraging. Doesn't put your writing down at all, really is willing to guide you and all that. I wrote a script for Community (not for her class, just for my "writing portfolio") and I sent it to her. She was nice enough to send it back to me with notes/comments and all and she hadn't seen Community before and my university doesn't offer TV writing (yet). But she told me she might consider teaching TV writing cuz of my Community script! Biggest compliment I've ever gotten on my writing. Ever. :)
I've heard of the Dresden Files, but not watched it yet. How long is the series? Is it a show you'd recommend? I just finished watching a Canadian web series called The Booth at the End and I'm also really loving Haven right now. Jason Priestley is in a 4 ep arc (his last ep airs here in the US this Friday) and there's one ep called "Audrey Parker's Day Off" that's exactly like a Tru Calling ep! Filled me with so much emotion! My fav ep of the series thus far for sure!
Sorry for the delay in responding... stupid Spanish exam! ):

Date: 2011-09-09 12:50 pm (UTC)Jack/Britta.. interesting thoughts there.
Bachelor of Arts is what I applied for, for next yr.
:) Sounds like a great class and even better teacher.

Date: 2011-09-11 10:38 pm (UTC)Jack/Britta is my guilty crack! ship. Everyone's allowed to have those, right? But I just really want Jason Priestley on Community. *sigh*
Wow, another Bachelors degree? In what? Good luck! How many years is your program? I hope you are accepted! :)
Yeah, seems like a great class, but it's already a lot of work as you know how any and all writing intensive classes are.

Date: 2011-09-12 04:34 pm (UTC)Haven/TC.. I need to watch more Haven. *sigh* *kicks uni* Might get to reading your fic once I've seen more.
:) Crack ships ftw.
Yeah lol. Figuring it out as I go. Not sure what I'm doing quite yet.
Hmm yeah. Writing classes are apparently a lot more work than some other units. Finding this out while not having writing units this sem.

Date: 2011-09-12 11:30 pm (UTC)Go for a BA in Writing! ;)
no subject
Date: 2011-09-13 04:29 am (UTC)Definitely considering that. I've changed course preferences. #1 is Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Journalism. So if I get in for that.. well, electives will be writing subjects at very least. Yet to figure if I want it as my main focus for the Arts part though.

Date: 2011-09-13 05:29 am (UTC)That sounds like an interesting Bachelors degree. I'm trying to apply for my Masters and the application prcess is CRAZY! SO. MUCH. WORK.

Date: 2011-09-14 07:50 am (UTC)Course details are here (http://www.uq.edu.au/study/program.html?acad_prog=2102) if you're interested in taking a look. :)
Masters.. Oooh. Yeah. Some of those ones require port folios and huuge amounts of extra submission stuff, don't they? So much work indeed. (G'luck!)

In other words: made of win!

Date: 2011-09-16 07:10 am (UTC)Yeah, I'd love to get into a Masters program to have a more focused plan of study, but the application process is A LOT of work! Writing portfolio of some sort, yes, and also at least one personal statement/essay about "why do you want to attend film school/get your MFA." 2 of the programs I'm applying for have more pieces/parts. Like 6 or 7 parts. Most just require one personal statement/essay and one or two writing samples. I wish fic counted as a writing sample! *sigh* But yeah, that's what happens when you're applying to a writing-focused Masters program. I want to focus on TV writing, but I'm applying to mostly general MFA in Screenwriting programs with TV specialization/concentration. Something like that. :)
no subject
Date: 2011-09-16 11:55 am (UTC)Masters program would be amazing. So much more focused on what you actually want to do rather than a thin covering of all areas under the main area. Sounds rather a lot of work to get in. We just have to fill something out on QTAC, costs $60 to apply, and there are the usual pre-requisites.
TV writing. *sigh* They don't have anything with that as a focus here. Only a single unit at each uni (QUT and UQ) for scriptwriting.
no subject
Date: 2011-09-18 03:30 am (UTC)Definitely! That's why I want to do a Masters program. Mostly writing courses, less theory and more practical/practice based than the analytical writing crap you do in undergrad. That's the whole point of Masters and Doctorate degrees from what I've seen, becoming a specialist in your field of study. It's definitely a lot of work here and I haven't even asked for my letters of recommendation yet! *facepalm*
Ah, really? I was under the impression there were more scriptwriting courses offered at your schools. Don't know why. Don't feel too bad. There are only 2 actual screenwriting courses offered at my university (Beginning and Advanced), so yeah. No TV writing AT ALL. Was looking into study abroad programs and I did look into some programs at Edith Cowan University in Perth (looked at their creative writing, psychology and disability studies courses) but never ended up pursuing the study abroad option. That's the only thing I regret upon getting ready to leave university. Wish I would have done that.

Date: 2011-09-18 02:31 pm (UTC)Sounds good. Busy, but good.
Not many at all. *shrug* Sad. I wish there were more courses on scriptwriting. Even online ones.

Date: 2011-09-18 11:05 pm (UTC)I know of a few online scriptwriting programs, but the best one I can think of is the UCLA Extension Writers Program. It has all kinds of writing courses, not just scriptwriting and there are certificate programs available. The reason I bring it up is cuz there are online options and there are many international students that participate in the online programs. As far as I know the Certificate in TV Writing cannot be completely completed online, though there are online TV courses available, but there are online options for the Certificate in Feature Film Writing as well as Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction, I believe. Don't know if that will help you, but thought I'd put it out there! :)

Date: 2011-09-19 02:57 am (UTC)Hmm'kay. Interesting.

Date: 2011-09-20 04:20 am (UTC)I might do one of the certificate programs or the UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting (it's a year-long program) as a back up plan in case I don't get into a Masters program. Plus, I'd have more polished samples to apply with the next time I tried.

Date: 2011-09-20 04:29 am (UTC)Hmm. Year long is good. Means you can probably study something else as well after without it taking too long..
no subject
Date: 2011-09-20 04:42 am (UTC)Yeah, I think the certificate programs go a bit longer than the year-long ones, but both are good options. Study something else or *try* to find work. Emphasis on try. I would like to eventually study more as a full-time student, though. As long as it doesn't involve foreign language classes!

Date: 2011-09-20 04:50 am (UTC)Yeah, I'm sure whatever you choose to go with you'll end up with something great. Even if it does take awhile to get there. :)
