ACTA in a Nutshell –
What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.
Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”
What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Date: 2012-01-24 02:31 am (UTC)I haven't taken time to read about ACTA yet, but I reposted your this post anyway! They made it so easy to repost!
It's past midnight and I need to get to sleep, so I'll get informed about it later in the week!
I don't like the way this is turning out! The fact that SOPA/PIPA and now ACTA got so far makes me lose faith in humanity! I'm not naive, I know how money makes this stupid world go round. But to give corporations a louder voice than the individual's free speech and even lives (when it restricts the drugs and farming advancements).... I don't even have words to express how depressed and disappointed that makes me feel.

Date: 2012-01-24 03:11 am (UTC)Good to get word out considering how much this'll affect all of us should it happen. Though if they get rid of all the upload sites (megaupload, and the others that've since fallen), it's not really going to matter.
Yeah. Free speech should come before money. Always.
