I'll likely discover more things to add to this list in future as I use my kindle more and more, but these are my initial thoughts on why my new kindle is awesome.

1. The screen is easy to read; you can change the text size and font to suit you. The screen doesn't get that reflection or glare that most phone/iPod/computer screens do in the sun. Overall it's much better on the eyes.

2. The kindle puts up a decent amount of text onscreen, meaning that it doesn't get irritating having to change the page "so often", and it also gives the illusion that you're getting through the story faster because generally, there is less text per page than a page of a paper novel.

3. A computer or laptop is no longer required to read your eBook collection! My back is much better for this already.

4. Amazon offers free eBooks which require a single click on the site to have it sent directly to your kindle via wireless. Within a minute or less, the book/s arrive on the kindle, ready to read.

5. It's very light and easy to carry around.

6. If you don't know a word in the book you are currently reading, you can move a cursor in front of that word and the dictionary meaning will appear at the top (or bottom, depending on which part of the text the word is in) in a neat little box. For further info you can click on this box and get a more in-depth meaning and origin of the word, etc.

7. It looks shiny. ♥

I'm definitely going to be doing that when I figure more out about file formatting and such. :D

Kindle can hold PDFs - you can just make a PDF of your fic and then transfer the file via USB connection or you can email it to your Kindle with email address (which you can find on your Kindle account at Amazon). It's just like transferring an MP3 on to an MP3 player: super super easy. :)

Yep, I've figured out that part, but most of the text shows up as tiny and the editing text thing is a bit more difficult.. I found that a dif format works better. Copying to a word doc then emailing to kindle email.. if that makes sense?

I got a kindle for Christmas and I love mine so much too. It's so small and easy to carry around, holds so many books, and the prices of books for it are a lot cheaper than in the stores. I got my books for this semester for school at about a third of the price I would have had to pay, and then I would have had to lug those big books around too. It's awesome!

Yeees. IKR? They're so amazing. ♥
I wish I bought mine before buying uni textbooks. Have since downloaded 3 or 4 of the required texts for free off amazon! *sigh* :P

Congrats on the new kindle! I have a Nook (which is basically the B&N version of it) and looooove it. They're so handy to have between classes and stuff!

Nook... I didn't actually see much on those when I researched into these things. But the name did come up. Glad you're loving yours. :D

Hehe... yeah. The dictionary function is amazingly useful. Especially with the older books with not as commonly used words and such. Perfect for my current uni course (Great Books: Creative Writing Classics). :)

Really cool. I like real books so much, but one day I'll get an e-reader.

Yep yep. :D
I'm the same - will never give up paper books. BUT... I don't see why I can't have it both ways. ;D

Congrats on the Kindle!

...but I am a book purist. I prefer the old-fashioned paper books. The feel, the smell...*sigh*

Thanks! :D

I'm always going to prefer paper books, but... with the way things are going in publishing, I figure why not go for both ways? Kindle and paper books. :)

Sounds so awesome!!! My mom got one, but I'm not sure if she's explored hers to the full extent yet. She got it because she has Parkinson's and her shaking hands make it difficult to read a paper book. I should tell her about the dictionary thing. I think that's super cool. :)

Ahh okay. Yeah, they're pretty awesome and easy to use. So. Hopefully she'll get a lot of use out of it. :)

I really should google the difference between a kindle and e-reader coz I swear, I have no idea at all. Coz I kinda-sorta want an e-reader but we'll have to see what happens....

There isn't really a difference. Kindle is one of the big brands in eReaders.. that's about it.
:) Worth getting one.
